Marisa Gulizia: From Therapy Tables to Show Ring Fables

Say hey to Marisa Gulizia—physical therapist, coach, mom, and now a proud participant in the Showing with the Stars fundraiser for the Harlan County Fair! She might be used to helping people stay balanced, but this time she’s testing her own skills in the show ring—possibly while being pulled around by a goat.

Originally from Norfolk, Nebraska, Marisa played collegiate softball before racking up an impressive list of credentials: Doctorate of Physical Therapy, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Registered Yoga Teacher (200 RYT), and Certified Functional Nutrition Informed Professional. Translation? If you pull a hamstring during the fundraiser, she’s your best hope.

Marisa and her husband Tony moved from Omaha to Alma ten years ago, when she accepted the Rehab Director position at Harlan County Health Systems. The move gave them a wonderful place to raise their three “crazy beautiful” kids—Kortlyn, Kinsley, and Ty—and gave Marisa countless ways to give back.

Here’s just a glimpse of what she’s been up to: Sharing concussion expertise with local providers, therapists, and schools, mentoring physical therapy students, assisting with sports medicine at APS and SVHS, leading the Athletic Edge Camp for grades 7–12 (10 years!), teaching Silver Strong wellness classes for the 50+ crowd (3 years!), and running a community yoga class (8 years and counting!)

In her “free time” (which, let’s be honest, barely exists), she loves baking, cooking, spending time outdoors, and coaching her kids' sports teams with Tony—who’s an independent insurance agent and the new owner of Harlan County Title Company.

Marisa is all about movement, motivation, and making a difference. So come cheer her on as she takes on a whole new kind of challenge—one that might involve a halter, hooves, and some very stubborn animal energy.

If you would like to see Marisa in the Showing with the Stars at 5:30 on July 31st, be sure to vote for him by clicking the link below.
